AJR59,1,52 Whereas, Wisconsin recognizes the importance of increasing public awareness
3and respect for persons with disabilities and informing the public about their many
4contributions to their communities and emphasizing the abilities of disabled
5persons; and
AJR59,1,96 Whereas, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was enacted to end
7disability-based discrimination and to promote inclusion, full participation,
8economic self-sufficiency, and equality of opportunity for all people with disabilities;
9and
AJR59,1,1210 Whereas, since 1988, October has been celebrated as National Disability
11Employment Awareness Month, and the theme for 2013 is "Because We Are Equal
12to the Task"; and
AJR59,1,1513 Whereas, workplaces welcoming the talents of all people, including people with
14disabilities, are a critical part of our efforts to build an inclusive community and
15strong economy; and

1Whereas, Wisconsin recognizes the skills that people with disabilities bring to
2our workforce, and is committed to improving employment opportunities for people
3with disabilities in both the public and private sectors; and
AJR59,2,64 Whereas, Wisconsin knows that employees working in integrated jobs make
5more financial contributions to their communities, use fewer public benefits, and
6experience better health outcomes; and
AJR59,2,97 Whereas, employing people with disabilities is good for business, as evidenced
8by national polls showing that nearly 90 percent of the public supports businesses
9that hire people with disabilities; and
AJR59,2,1110 Whereas, people with disabilities are capable and willing to work at
11competitive-wage jobs with the right supports and job fit; and
AJR59,2,13   12Whereas, by celebrating the abilities and contributions of individuals with
13disabilities, we enrich the communities of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
AJR59,2,18 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
15proclaims October 2013 as Disability Awareness Month throughout the state of
16Wisconsin, and urges all Wisconsinites to explore the possibilities of offering
17mentoring, internships, and employment to people with disabilities, whose many
18gifts and talents contribute to our state.
