SJR46,1,32 Whereas, Kathryn Morrison was born on May 22, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin,
3and died on June 30, 2013, in Madison; and
SJR46,1,5   4Whereas, Kathryn began her long and distinguished career as an assistant
5professor at the UW-Platteville School of Business & Economics; and
SJR46,1,8   6Whereas, Kathryn became the first woman to serve in the Wisconsin Senate in
71975, serving the 17th Senate District, and was the first woman to serve on the
8powerful Joint Committee on Finance, in 1976; and
SJR46,1,11   9Whereas, Kathryn was held in high respect by her colleagues and in 1976 was
10the recipient of the Woman of the Year in State Politics award and the Wisconsin
11Church Women United's Woman of the Year award; and
SJR46,1,1412 Whereas, Kathryn was both unwavering in her dedication to her core beliefs
13and respectful of those with whom she disagreed, and dedicated her time in the
14legislature to helping those who were most in need; and

1Whereas, Kathryn served for a time in the United States Department of Health
2and Human Services and the United States Department of Housing and Urban
3Development; and
SJR46,2,64 Whereas, Kathryn continued to be active in the community by serving as a
5consultant at the Wisconsin Regional Geriatric Center and as administrator of the
6Division of Health in Wisconsin; and
SJR46,2,97 Whereas, Kathryn was the chief financial officer of the New York City Health
8and Hospital Corporation, which runs the public hospital system in New York City;
9and
SJR46,2,1210 Whereas, Kathryn was an adjunct professor at New York University, and was
11the senior vice president for finance and administration at the March of Dimes until
12her retirement in 2004; and
SJR46,2,1613 Whereas, Kathryn benefited greatly throughout her life and public career from
14the strong love and support of her brothers, Phillip Morrison of Mesa, Arizona, and
15Paul Morrison of Fort Collins, Colorado, and her longtime friend, Katharine Lyall;
16now, therefore, be it
SJR46,2,20 17Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
18Wisconsin legislature do commend the devoted public service that Kathryn Morrison
19contributed to her community, express their sorrow at her death, and extend their
20condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further
SJR46,2,23 21Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
22resolution to Kathryn's brothers, Phillip and Paul Morrison, and to her longtime
23friend, Katharine Lyall.
