AB786,1,2 1An Act relating to: report on dementia crisis unit pilot program and placement
2of individuals with dementia.

This bill requires the Department of Health Services to prepare a report
describing where individuals who have dementia are currently placed in crisis
situations and proposing a pilot program for coalitions of two or more counties to
create dementia crisis units.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB786,1 3Section 1. Nonstatutory provisions.
AB786,1,44 (1) (a) In this subsection:
AB786,2,25 1. "Dementia crisis unit" means a unit or part of a unit of a public or private
6facility that is qualified, competent, and equipped to provide diagnosis, evaluation,
7and treatment of dementia and medical, psychiatric, and behavioral care to

1individuals who have dementia and that provides a therapeutic environment that is
2appropriate for and designed to prevent harm to individuals who have dementia.
AB786,2,33 2. "Department" means the department of health services.
AB786,2,104 (b) Before November 1, 2016, the department shall prepare a report describing
5where individuals who have dementia are currently placed in crisis situations and
6proposing a pilot program for coalitions of 2 or more counties to create dementia crisis
7units. The department shall submit the report under this paragraph to the
8appropriate standing committees of the legislature with jurisdiction over health,
9aging and long-term care, or mental health issues under section 13.172 (3) of the
10statutes.
