AB811,1,2 An Act relating to: lights on boats prohibited by a rule promulgated by the Department of Natural Resources.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

This bill makes a change to a rule promulgated by the Department of Natural Resources relating to the display of blue lights on boats. The current rule prohibits the display of a blue light or lamp on a vessel other than a patrol boat, which is a boat authorized by this state or by a local governmental unit for the purpose of law enforcement, search and rescue, fire fighting, emergency response, or water safety operations. Under this bill, only a flashing blue light is prohibited from display on vessels that are not patrol boats.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB811,1 Section 1. NR 5.17 (2) of the administrative code is amended to read:

AB811,1,6 NR 5.17 (2) No vessel may be equipped with or display any blue colored light or lamp flashing blue light unless the vessel is a patrol boat defined in s. 30.50 (9b), Stats.
