SJR10,1,43 Whereas, heart disease is the number one killer of women, yet 80 percent of
4cardiac events can be prevented; and
SJR10,1,65 Whereas, cardiovascular diseases cause one in three women's deaths each year,
6killing approximately one woman every minute; and
SJR10,1,87 Whereas, an estimated 44 million women in the United States are affected by
8cardiovascular diseases; and
SJR10,1,119 Whereas, 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing
10heart disease, yet only one in five American women believe that heart disease is her
11greatest health threat; and
SJR10,1,1312 Whereas, women comprise only 24 percent of participants in all heart-related
13studies; and
SJR10,1,1514 Whereas, since 1984, more women than men have died each year from heart
15disease; and

1Whereas, women are less likely to call "911" for themselves when experiencing
2symptoms of a heart attack than they are if someone else were having a heart attack;

SJR10,2,64 Whereas, only 43 percent of African American women and 44 percent of
5Hispanic women know that heart disease is their greatest health risk, compared
6with 60 percent of Caucasian women; and
SJR10,2,97 Whereas, women involved with the American Heart Association's Go Red for
8Women movement live healthier lives—nearly 90 percent have made at least one
9healthy behavior change; and
SJR10,2,1110 Whereas, Go Red For Women is asking all Americans to Go Red by wearing red
11and speaking red:
SJR10,2,13 12 Get Your Numbers: ask your doctor to check your blood pressure and
13cholesterol;
SJR10,2,14 14 Own Your Lifestyle: stop smoking, lose weight, exercise, and eat healthy;
SJR10,2,15 15 Raise Your Voice: advocate for more women-related research and education;
SJR10,2,17 16 Educate Your Family: make healthy food choices for you and your family.
17Teach your kids the importance of staying active;
SJR10,2,19 18 Don't be silent: tell every woman you know that heart disease is their number
19one killer. Raise your voice at GoRedForWomen.org; now, therefore, be it
SJR10,2,22 20Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That in recognition of
21the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke, the legislature
22proclaims Friday, February 6, 2015, to be National Wear Red Day.
