AB13,1,4 1An Act to repeal 115.33 (4), 118.035 (5), 118.38 (4) and 121.91 (5) (b); to
2renumber
121.91 (5) (a); and to amend 115.28 (43) and 118.57 (2) of the
3statutes; relating to: repealing outdated or expired reporting requirements
4(suggested as remedial legislation by the Department of Public Instruction).
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill eliminates a number of expired or outdated reporting requirements
imposed on the Department of Public Instruction. Eliminated in this bill are a
requirement to submit a report to the legislature and to the governor, by January 1,
2001, and January 1, 2003, regarding DPI's progress in securing school safety
funding; a requirement to submit to the standing committees of the legislature a
report summarizing the physical condition and capacity of the state's public schools;
and a requirement to submit, by July 1, 2005, a report to the standing committees
of the legislature on the imposition of school uniforms by school boards.
The bill also corrects an incorrect cross-reference in a provision requiring the
department to provide notice of educational options.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB13,1 5Section 1. 115.28 (43) of the statutes is amended to read:

1115.28 (43) School safety funding. With the department of justice, seek and
2apply for federal funds relating to school safety and reducing violence and disruption
3in schools, including funds for alternative schools or programs. Each department
4shall make a report by January 1, 2001, and January 1, 2003, of its progress in
5applying for and obtaining funds under this subsection. The report shall be provided
6to the legislature in the manner provided under s. 13.172 (2) to the cochairpersons
7of the joint committee on finance and to the governor.
AB13,2 8Section 2. 115.33 (4) of the statutes is repealed.
AB13,3 9Section 3. 118.035 (5) of the statutes is repealed.
AB13,4 10Section 4. 118.38 (4) of the statutes is repealed.
AB13,5 11Section 5. 118.57 (2) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB13,2,1812 118.57 (2) The school board shall include in the notice under sub. (1) the most
13recent performance category assigned under s. 115.385 (2) (1) (b) to each school
14within the school district boundaries, including charter schools established under s.
15118.40 (2r) or (2x) and private schools participating in a parental choice program
16under s. 118.60 or 119.23. The notice published by the school board shall inform
17parents that the full school and school district accountability report is available on
18the school board's Internet site.
AB13,6 19Section 6. 121.91 (5) (a) of the statutes is renumbered 121.91 (5).
AB13,7 20Section 7. 121.91 (5) (b) of the statutes is repealed.
