AR15,1,4 1Relating to: recognizing and proclaiming Hispanic Heritage Month, a month-long
2celebration of the culture and traditions of United States residents who trace
3their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central
4America, South America, and the Caribbean.
AR15,1,85 Whereas, the story of Hispanics and Latinos is the story of America, in that they
6have contributed in various fields, from the arts, sciences, sports, and culture to the
7economy, have encompassed the American dream, and have brought the energy and
8drive of recent immigrants to this country; and
AR15,1,109 Whereas, Latinos serve in government at every level, from school boards to the
10state house, from city councils and mayoral offices to Congress; and
AR15,1,1311 Whereas, Latinos have served with honor and distinction in every conflict
12involving the United States since the Revolutionary War and have made valuable
13contributions through their service to this country; and
AR15,2,214 Whereas, the United States Census Bureau estimated that by July 2015 the
15Hispanic population had surpassed 54 million people, constituting 17 percent of the

1total population of the United States, making Hispanics the largest minority group;
2and
AR15,2,53 Whereas, the United States Census Bureau estimates that by 2060 Latino
4people will comprise over 28 percent of the total U.S. population, with 119 million
5residing in the United States; and
AR15,2,76 Whereas, only Mexico has a larger Hispanic population than the United States;

AR15,2,98 Whereas, more than 364,000 Latinos call Wisconsin home; now, therefore, be

AR15,2,13 10Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin Assembly
11honor the achievements of Hispanics and Latinos in America and honor the many
12ways they continue to enrich our nation and shape our common future; and, be it
13further
AR15,2,15 14Resolved, That following in the footsteps of Congress, September 15 to
15October 15 is proclaimed Hispanic Heritage Month in Wisconsin.
