SB540,1,2 1An Act to amend 347.07 (2) (intro.); and to create 347.14 (3) of the statutes;
2relating to: authorizing pulsing stop lamps on vehicles.

This bill provides that a motor vehicle equipped with required stop lamps may
be equipped with a center-mounted stop lamp that pulses up to four times in two
seconds before displaying a continuous light.
Under current law, unless explicitly authorized or required by law, no person
may operate on the highway a vehicle that displays any flashing light.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB540,1 3Section 1. 347.07 (2) (intro.) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB540,1,64 347.07 (2) (intro.) Except as provided in sub. (3) or s. 347.14 (3) or 347.145, or
5as otherwise expressly authorized or required by this chapter, no person shall
6operate any vehicle or equipment on a highway which has displayed thereon:

1347.14 (3) In addition to the stop lamps required under sub. (1), a vehicle may
2be equipped with a stop lamp with a light that pulses if all of the following apply:
SB540,2,43 (a) The stop lamp is mounted symmetrically with respect to the vertical center
4line of the rear of the vehicle.
SB540,2,65 (b) Upon application of the foot brake, the light pulses not more than 4 times
6and for not longer than 2 seconds.
SB540,2,87 (c) After the light pulses as provided in par. (b), the light displays continuously
8until the foot brake is no longer applied.
SB540,2,109 (d) The light is prevented from pulsing upon application of the foot brake unless
10at least 5 seconds have lapsed since the previous application of the foot brake.
