SB68,1,2 1An Act to amend 29.336 (2) (b) and 29.336 (2) (c) of the statutes; relating to:
2rules that prohibit feeding deer in certain counties.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill limits the time during which the feeding of deer may be prohibited
following a positive test for certain diseases.
Current law requires the Department of Natural Resources to promulgate rules
that prohibit feeding deer for hunting or viewing purposes in certain counties,
including counties in which a positive test for chronic wasting disease (CWD) or
bovine tuberculosis (BT) has been confirmed in any captive or free-roaming domestic
or wild animal after December 31, 1997, and in any county in which the county or
a portion of the county is within a ten-mile radius of the known location of that
animal (neighboring county). This bill provides that, after any positive test for CWD
or BT has been confirmed, the rule prohibiting feeding deer may not be in effect for
longer than 36 months in the county where the tested animal was located or longer
than 24 months in neighboring counties.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
