SJR17,1,32 Whereas, Richard A. Grobschmidt was born on May 3, 1948, and died on July
323, 2016; and
SJR17,1,64 Whereas, Richard A. Grobschmidt, scion of a family long dedicated to public
5service, similarly devoted his life to the betterment of the city of South Milwaukee
6and the state of Wisconsin; and
SJR17,1,107 Whereas, after graduating from South Milwaukee High School in 1966 and
8obtaining his Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education from the
9University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1972, he returned to South Milwaukee High as
10a teacher; and
SJR17,1,1211 Whereas, Grobschmidt obtained his Masters Degree in Curriculum and
12Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1979; and
SJR17,2,213 Whereas, his interest in public affairs and public service led him to successfully
14seek election to the Wisconsin Assembly in 1984, where he was a member of the

1Education Committee from 1985 to 1995, serving as chairperson during the 1993
2session, and the Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care; and
SJR17,2,53 Whereas, Grobschmidt was elected to the Wisconsin Senate in a special election
4in November 1995, serving on the Senate Education Committee from 1996 to 2003,
5and as chairperson of that committee from 1999 to 2003; and
SJR17,2,86 Whereas, he was known in his many years in the legislature as a consensus
7builder, a bipartisan worker, and a tireless servant to his constituents; now,
8therefore, be it
SJR17,2,11 9Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
10Wisconsin Legislature salute Richard A. Grobschmidt, acknowledge his tremendous
11record of public service, and mourn his passing; and, be it further
SJR17,2,14 12Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution to
13Richard Grobschmidt's wife of 47 years, Barbara, to his father, Chester, and to his
14daughter, Tamara.
