SJR26,1,43 Whereas, nearly 97 percent of scientists agree that temperatures have risen
4over the past century; and
SJR26,1,65 Whereas, global warming presents a serious threat towards long-term
6sustainability; and
SJR26,1,87 Whereas, severe biodiversity reduction, huge natural resource depletion, and
8deforestation have been pressing issues for decades; and
SJR26,1,109 Whereas, the United Nations estimates that over 150 species of plants and
10animals become extinct every 24 hours; and
SJR26,1,1311 Whereas, this rate of extinction and the increase in the rate of rising
12temperatures has not been experienced since the extinction of dinosaurs 65 million
13years ago; and
SJR26,1,1514 Whereas, evidence suggests that humans play a role in rising temperatures;

1Whereas, environmental education provides students with opportunities to
2learn about the threats facing the global environment and how to live sustainably;

SJR26,2,54 Whereas, the legislature provides an opportunity to join a national awareness
5effort to increase the public's environmental consciousness; now, therefore, be it

7hereby proclaims April 16, 2017, to April 22, 2017, as National Environmental
8Education Week in Wisconsin.
