SJR30,1,42 Whereas, the term “Gold Star” began during World War I when American
3families displayed flags in homes, businesses, schools, and churches with a gold star
4for each loved one lost in military service; and
SJR30,1,75 Whereas, today the United States of America recognizes the sacrifice that all
6Gold Star family members make when a father, mother, brother, sister, son,
7daughter, or other loved one dies in active service to the nation; and
SJR30,1,108 Whereas, less than 1 percent of Americans serve in our military, and we have
9an obligation to acknowledge and honor the losses of our servicemen and
10servicewomen and ensure that their families are not forgotten; and
SJR30,1,1211 Whereas, during the month of May, we honor those who lost a family member
12who died while in active service in the United States Armed Forces; and
SJR30,1,1513 Whereas, during the month of May, we remember our commitment to Gold Star
14families, who carry on with pride and courage despite their tragic loss; now,

1Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature hereby proclaim the month of May 2017, as Gold Star
3Awareness Month in Wisconsin; and, be it further
SJR30,2,6 4Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature express our sincere
5appreciation and recognition of Gold Star families for the ultimate sacrifice of their
6loved ones in defense of our great nation.
