SJR8,1,32 Whereas, former state senator Roger P. Murphy was born on October 17, 1923,
3and died on July 11, 2009; and
SJR8,1,64 Whereas, Roger Murphy was born in Lancaster, the son of Frank and Alice, and
5was a World War II veteran who served with the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945,
6flying 29 combat missions in England; and
SJR8,1,97 Whereas, Roger Murphy earned his law degree from the University of
8Wisconsin in 1951, and was elected district attorney of Waukesha County in 1961,
9serving five consecutive terms in that office until 1971; and
SJR8,1,1210 Whereas, Roger Murphy served as state president of the Wisconsin District
11Attorneys Association and also served on the first Governor's Commission on Law
12Enforcement and Crime; and
SJR8,1,1413 Whereas, Senator Murphy was elected in 1970 and served the 33rd Senate
14District until 1980; and

1Whereas, Senator Murphy, a Republican, served as assistant minority leader
2during the 1979 session, and served on numerous standing committees and
3Legislative Council study committees during his legislative career, including those
4relating to the judiciary; and
SJR8,2,75 Whereas, Judge Murphy was appointed by Governor Lee Dreyfus to the third
6branch of the Circuit Court of Waukesha County in 1980 and served in that role until
7retiring in 1999; and
SJR8,2,98 Whereas, Roger was husband to Arlene, and father to Mark, Tom, and Margaret
9Jane, and was a grandfather; now, therefore, be it
SJR8,2,12 10Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature salute Roger P. Murphy's public service and honor his
12achievements; and, be it further
SJR8,2,14 13Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
14resolution to his family.
