AJR123,1,43 Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature is proud to salute the accomplishments of
4exemplary organizations as they celebrate significant anniversaries; and
AJR123,1,75 Whereas, one such notable group, the American Automobile Association (AAA),
6celebrated its 100th anniversary of the AAA School Safety Patrol Program and,
7therefore, we wish to express our deepest appreciation for its exceptional work; and
AJR123,1,118 Whereas, the AAA School Safety Patrol Program is a program that enlists the
9assistance of select students who volunteer to help younger students as they cross
10the street on their way to and from school and who help to protect their fellow
11classmates against traffic hazards; and
AJR123,1,1412 Whereas, the concept of school safety patrollers began in 1920 when Charles M.
13Hayes pledged support for protecting school-aged children after witnessing a
14terrible car crash; and

1Whereas, the program is now 100 years strong and continues to have a positive
2impact on schools, students, and communities; and
AJR123,2,43 Whereas, AAA School Safety Patrols play an important role in helping young
4pedestrians learn and fulfill responsibilities regarding traffic safety; and
AJR123,2,65 Whereas, millions of boys and girls in the United States have honorably served
6their classmates since the program began; and
AJR123,2,117 Whereas, today, the AAA School Safety Patrol Program is the largest
8school-based safety program in the world with more than 679,000 patrollers in
935,000 schools across North America and 30 countries, providing a safer
10environment for child pedestrians and offering a spectrum of educational
11opportunities for school children; and
AJR123,2,1312 Whereas, the School Safety Patrol Program embodies AAA's mission of
13providing safety and security to the motoring public; and
AJR123,2,1714 Whereas, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause
15to specially recognize the AAA School Safety Patrol Program and those outstanding
16students who have dedicated themselves to improving safety in their respective
17schools and communities; now, therefore, be it
AJR123,2,21 18Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
19Legislature does hereby recognize May 2020 as the 100th anniversary of the AAA
20School Safety Patrol Program in the State of Wisconsin, and call this observance to
21the attention of all our citizens.
