AJR19,1,42 Whereas, the National Kidney Foundation designated March as National
3Kidney Month to help spread awareness about kidney disease and the ways it can
4be detected and prevented; and
AJR19,1,75 Whereas, kidneys serve many important health functions, including filtering
6waste from the blood, directing the production of red blood cells, and regulating fluid
7and blood pressure levels; and
AJR19,1,98 Whereas, one in nine American adults has kidney disease and one in three
9adults is at a high risk for developing kidney disease; and
AJR19,1,1210 Whereas, kidney disease can cause several health problems, such as
11cardiovascular disease, heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke, kidney failure, and
12nerve damage; and
AJR19,1,1413 Whereas, the risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes, family history,
14high blood pressure, and old age; and

1Whereas, African-Americans are at an increased risk for chronic kidney
2disease and kidney failure; and

4they have it; and

6abdomen, or extremities, bloody or foamy urine, painful urination, fatigue, or
7increased thirst; and
AJR19,2,98 Whereas, early detection and treatment of kidney disease can slow or prevent
9disease progression; and
AJR19,2,1310 Whereas, according to the National Kidney Foundation, kidney disease risk
11can be reduced by quitting smoking, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight,
12controlling blood pressure and blood sugar, and avoiding excessive use of pain
13medications; and
AJR19,2,1514 Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature has an opportunity to join a national
15awareness effort to promote kidney health; now, therefore, be it
AJR19,2,17 16Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
17hereby proclaims March 2019 to be Kidney Month in Wisconsin.
