SJR5,1,1 Relating to: proclaiming February 2019 to be American Heart Month in Wisconsin.

SJR5,1,3 Whereas, cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of women in Wisconsin and in the United States; and

SJR5,1,5 Whereas, cardiovascular disease kills approximately one woman every hour in Wisconsin and one woman almost every 80 seconds in the United States; and

SJR5,1,6 Whereas, about 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented; and

SJR5,1,8 Whereas, some risk factors such as blood pressure, smoking, cholesterol, and lack of regular physical activity can be controlled; and

SJR5,1,11 Whereas, the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement motivates women to learn their family history and to meet with a health care provider to determine their risk for cardiovascular diseases and stroke; and

SJR5,1,13 Whereas, Go Red For Women encourages women to take control of their heart health by knowing the following five numbers that can be life changing:

SJR5,1,14 1. Total Cholesterol

SJR5,1,15 2. HDL (good) Cholesterol

SJR5,2,1 3. Blood Pressure

SJR5,2,2 4. Blood Sugar

SJR5,2,3 5. Body Mass Index (BMI); now, therefore, be it

SJR5,2,6 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature, in recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke, does hereby proclaim February 2019 to be American Heart Month in Wisconsin.
