1An Act to create 20.855 (4) (bg) of the statutes; relating to: the University of
2Wisconsin Missing-in-Action Recovery and Identification Project and making
3an appropriation. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under this bill, the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System must provide funding to the UW Missing-in-Action Recovery and Identification Project (MIA Recovery Project) for missions to recover and identify Wisconsin veterans who are missing in action. At the conclusion of the mission for which funding is provided, the MIA Recovery Project must submit to the Board of Regents, the joint committee on finance, each legislative standing committee dealing with veterans matters, the governor, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Military Affairs a report on the mission’s findings and an accounting of expenditures for the mission. The bill appropriates $500,000 in each year of the 2025-27 fiscal biennium for the MIA Recovery Project.

(this act), section 3 (1). AB641,313Section 3. Nonstatutory provisions. AB641,2,1514(1) Funding for the University of Wisconsin Missing-in-Action 15Recovery and Identification Project. AB641,2,1616(a) In this subsection: AB641,2,17171. “Board” means the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. AB641,2,19182. “MIA Recovery Project” means the University of Wisconsin Missing-in-19Action Recovery and Identification Project. AB641,2,2320(b) From the appropriation under s. 20.855 (4) (bg), the board shall provide 21$500,000 in funding in each fiscal year of the 2025-27 fiscal biennium for the MIA 22Recovery Project to perform a mission for the recovery and identification of 23Wisconsin veterans who are missing in action.
