524.41 Posting of certain public lands.
(1) (a) Except as provided in par.
6(b), every board, commission, department and agency of the state having real estate
7belonging to the state under its control shall post any boundary of the real estate as
8specified in sub. (2) if the real estate abuts private land along that boundary.

(b) A board, commission, department or agency is not required to post a
10boundary of real estate under its control under par. (a) if the abutting private land
11is posted, in a manner that is substantially similar to the manner described in sub.
12(2), with a sign that carries an appropriate notice that the land is private and the
13name of the owner or occupant giving notice.

14(2) A board, commission, department or agency shall post real estate under
15sub. (1) (a) using one of the following procedures:

1(a) Placing a sign at least 11 inches square in at least 2 conspicuous places for
2every 150 yards of the boundary to be posted. The sign must carry an appropriate
3notice that it marks the boundary between public and private land and the name of
4the board, commission, department or agency that controls the real estate.

(b) Making markings of at least one foot long in at least 2 conspicuous places
6for every 150 yards of the boundary to be posted, including in a contrasting color the
7phrase "public land boundary" and the name of the board, commission, department
8or agency that controls the real estate.".
