AB149-AA2,1,11 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:
AB149-AA2,1,4 21. Page 1, line 2: delete the material beginning with "prohibiting" and ending
3with "employes" on line 4 and substitute: "residency requirements for certain
4employes of cities, villages, towns, counties and school districts".
AB149-AA2,1,5 52. Page 3, line 13: delete lines 13 and 14 and substitute:
AB149-AA2,1,6 6"(2) In this section:
AB149-AA2,1,87 (a) "Key election" means a spring primary, a spring election, a September
8primary or a general election.
AB149-AA2,1,109 (b) "Local governmental unit" means any city, village, town, county or school
10district.".
AB149-AA2,1,11 113. Page 3, line 18: after " (4)" insert "(a)".
AB149-AA2,1,12 124. Page 3, line 20: after that line insert:
AB149-AA2,1,15 13"(b) A local governmental unit may require, as a condition of employment, that
14any employe or prospective employe reside within a jurisdictional limit if all of the
15following occur:

11. The electors of the local governmental unit, in a referendum, approve an
2ordinance enacted by or resolution adopted by the local governmental unit that
3provides for a residency requirement for employes or prospective employes of the
4local governmental unit.
AB149-AA2,2,65 2. The referendum described in subd. 1. occurs at a key election that is held
6from 1992 to 1996.
AB149-AA2,2,11 7(5) An ordinance or resolution that is approved in a referendum under sub. (4)
8(b) may be repealed by the local governmental unit if an ordinance enacted by or
9resolution adopted by the local governmental unit that repeals the residency
10requirement is approved by the electors of the local governmental unit in a
11referendum.".

AB149-AA2,2,13 13" Section 7. Effective date.
AB149-AA2,2,14 14(1)This act takes effect on January 1, 1997.".
