AB220-ASA1,1,3 1An Act to amend 45.25 (1), 45.25 (3) (a) and 45.25 (4) (a); and to repeal and
2recreate
45.25 (3) (a) of the statutes; relating to: the veterans' tuition and fee
3reimbursement program.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB220-ASA1, s. 1 4Section 1. 45.25 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB220-ASA1,1,85 45.25 (1) Administration. The department of veterans affairs shall administer
6a tuition and fee reimbursement program for eligible veterans enrolling as
7undergraduates in any institution or center within the university of Wisconsin
8system or enrolling in any technical college under ch. 38
of higher education.
AB220-ASA1, s. 2 9Section 2. 45.25 (3) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB220-ASA1,2,910 45.25 (3) (a) An individual who meets the requirements under sub. (2), upon
11satisfactory completion of an undergraduate semester in any institution or center
12within the university of Wisconsin system or a semester at any technical college
13district school under ch. 38
of higher education, may be reimbursed for up to 25% of
14the individual's average tuition and fees, other than textbooks and other costs,

1charged by the institution, center or school
charged a resident undergraduate at each
2technical college and at each institution and center within the University of
3Wisconsin System
or the difference between the individual's tuition and fees and the
4grants or scholarships, including those made under s. 21.49, that the individual
5receives specifically for the payment of the tuition or fees, whichever is less.
6Reimbursement is available only for tuition and fees that are part of a curriculum
7that is relevant to a degree in a particular course of study at the institution, center
8or school
of higher education. Reimbursement under this paragraph may not exceed
9the costs of the individual's tuition and fees

AB220-ASA1, s. 3 10Section 3. 45.25 (3) (a) of the statutes, as affected by 1995 Wisconsin Acts 27
11and .... (this act), is repealed and recreated to read:
AB220-ASA1,2,2212 45.25 (3) (a) An individual who meets the requirements under sub. (2), upon
13satisfactory completion of an undergraduate semester in any institution of higher
14education, may be reimbursed for up to 35% of the average tuition and fees charged
15a resident undergraduate at each technical college and at each institution and center
16within the University of Wisconsin System or the difference between the individual's
17tuition and fees and the grants or scholarships, including those made under s. 21.49,
18that the individual receives specifically for the payment of the tuition or fees,
19whichever is less. Reimbursement is available only for tuition and fees that are part
20of a curriculum that is relevant to a degree in a particular course of study at the
21institution of higher education. Reimbursement under this paragraph may not
22exceed the costs of the individual's tuition and fees.
AB220-ASA1, s. 4 23Section 4. 45.25 (4) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB220-ASA1,3,324 45.25 (4) (a) An individual is not eligible for reimbursement under sub. (2) for
25more than 120 credits of part-time study or 8 full semesters of full-time study at any

14-year institution or center within the university of Wisconsin system of higher
2education
or 60 credits of part-time study or 4 full semesters of full-time study at
3a technical college under ch. 38 any 2-year institution of higher education.
AB220-ASA1, s. 5 4Section 5. Initial applicability.
AB220-ASA1,3,8 5(1) The treatment of section 45.25 (1) and (4) (a) of the statutes and the
6amendment of section 45.25 (3) (a) of the statutes first apply to applications for
7reimbursement of tuition and fees received by the department of veterans affairs on
8the effective date of this subsection.

AB220-ASA1,3,11 10(1) The repeal and recreation of section 45.25 (3) (a) of the statutes takes effect
11on July 1, 1996, or on the day after publication, whichever is later.
