613.195 Party caucuses. The members of each political party in each house
7of the legislature shall select a member to serve as caucus chairperson. Each caucus
8chairperson may employ one person under s. 13.20 (1) to serve as caucus director.
9The position of caucus director shall be assigned to a pay range that is comparable
10to the pay range to which committee clerks are assigned.

(1) Number and pay range of legislative employes. The legislature or
13either house thereof may employ under the unclassified service such policy research
14personnel, assistants to legislators, research staff assigned to legislative committees
15and party caucuses and such clerical, professional or other assistants as in the
1judgment of the joint committee on legislative organization or the committee on
2organization in each house are necessary to enable it to perform its functions and
3duties and to best serve the people of this state.
In addition, each caucus chairperson
4may employ one individual to serve as caucus director under s. 13.195.

5(2) Pay ranges; duration of employment.
All Except as provided in s. 13.195,
6all legislative employes shall be paid in accordance with the compensation and
7classification plan for employes in the classified civil service within ranges approved
8by the joint committee on legislative organization. The secretary of employment
9relations shall make recommendations concerning a compensation and classification
10schedule for legislative employes if requested to do so by the joint committee on
11legislative organization or by the committee on organization of either house. If the
12joint committee does not approve pay ranges for legislative employes, the committee
13on organization of either house may approve pay ranges for its employes.
14Appointments shall be made for the legislative session, unless earlier terminated by
15the appointing officer.

(8) Clerk. The joint committee on legislative organization, for joint
18standing committees, and the committee on organization of each house, for standing
19committees of that house, shall assign a committee clerk, who shall keep the records
20of the committee.".

2appropriation under section 20.765 (1) (a) of the statutes, are decreased by 7.0 GPR
3positions on January 1, 1996, to reduce staffing of party caucuses.
