AB801-ASA1,1,2 1An Act to repeal 20.235 (1) (gm); and to repeal and recreate 39.38 (2) of the
2statutes; relating to: Indian student assistance grants.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB801-ASA1, s. 1 3Section 1. 20.235 (1) (gm) of the statutes, as created by 1995 Wisconsin Act
427
, is repealed.
AB801-ASA1, s. 2 5Section 2. 39.38 (2) of the statutes, as affected by 1995 Wisconsin Act 27,
6section 1887g, is repealed and recreated to read:
AB801-ASA1,2,27 39.38 (2) Grants under this section shall be based on financial need, as
8determined by the department. The maximum grant shall not exceed $2,200 per
9year. Grants shall be awarded to students for full-time or part-time attendance at
10any accredited institution of higher education in this state. The department may not
11make a grant under this section to a student if the department receives a certification
12under s. 46.255 (7) that the student is delinquent in child support or maintenance
13payments. Grants shall be renewable for up to 5 years if a recipient remains in good
14academic standing at the institution that he or she is attending. The American

1Indian language and culture education board shall advise the department on the
2allocation of grants to students enrolled less than half time.

AB801-ASA1,2,54 (1)  Indian student assistance grants. This act takes effect on July 1, 1996, or
5on the day after publication, whichever is later.
