ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 1, To 1995 ASSEMBLY BILL 801

AB801-ASA1,1,2 An Act to repeal 20.235 (1) (gm); and to repeal and recreate 39.38 (2) of the statutes; relating to: Indian student assistance grants.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB801-ASA1, s. 1 Section 1. 20.235 (1) (gm) of the statutes, as created by 1995 Wisconsin Act 27, is repealed.

AB801-ASA1, s. 2 Section 2. 39.38 (2) of the statutes, as affected by 1995 Wisconsin Act 27, section 1887g, is repealed and recreated to read:

AB801-ASA1,2,2 39.38 (2) Grants under this section shall be based on financial need, as determined by the department. The maximum grant shall not exceed $2,200 per year. Grants shall be awarded to students for full-time or part-time attendance at any accredited institution of higher education in this state. The department may not make a grant under this section to a student if the department receives a certification under s. 46.255 (7) that the student is delinquent in child support or maintenance payments. Grants shall be renewable for up to 5 years if a recipient remains in good academic standing at the institution that he or she is attending. The American Indian language and culture education board shall advise the department on the allocation of grants to students enrolled less than half time.

AB801-ASA1, s. 3 Section 3. Effective date.

AB801-ASA1,2,5 (1)  Indian student assistance grants. This act takes effect on July 1, 1996, or on the day after publication, whichever is later.
