AJR82-SSA1,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Karl J. Goethel.
AJR82-SSA1,1,32 Whereas, Karl J. Goethel was born on April 7, 1930, in Eau Claire, and died on
3February 23, 1996, in Durand; and
AJR82-SSA1,1,54 Whereas, he was elected in November of 1958 to the assembly to represent the
5first assembly district of Eau Claire County; and
AJR82-SSA1,1,76 Whereas, Mr. Goethel was elected in November of 1964 as District Attorney of
7Pepin County, and was reelected to that office every 2 years since; and
AJR82-SSA1,1,118 Whereas, during his public service career as District Attorney of Pepin County,
9Karl J. Goethel earned the respect of his legal colleagues, judges, defendants and
10courthouse elected officials and employes as an individual of legal expertise,
11personal integrity and honesty; and
AJR82-SSA1,1,1312 Whereas, based on present records of elected district attorneys, Karl J. Goethel
13held the distinction of being Wisconsin's longest serving district attorney; and
AJR82-SSA1,1,1514 Whereas, as a lawyer and prosecutor, Karl J. Goethel demonstrated a unique
15sense of humor and wit, which became a trademark of renown; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend Karl J. Goethel on his dedicated public
3service as a legal officer of Pepin County and the state of Wisconsin, express their
4sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be
5it further
AJR82-SSA1,2,8 6Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
7resolution to Mr. Goethel's wife, June Ann, and to his children, Elizabeth Schuster,
8Jennifer Eisenbraun, Nancy Goethel, Karl Goethel and Michael Goethel.
