ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 2, To 1995 ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION 29

AR29-ASA2,1,2 Relating to: commending Shannon Faulkner and requesting Congress to discontinue funding for the Citadel.

AR29-ASA2,1,4 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner attempted for 2 1/2 years to enroll in the Citadel, the South Carolina state military college; and

AR29-ASA2,1,6 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner was admitted as the first woman cadet in the 152-year history of the Citadel cadet corps; and

AR29-ASA2,1,8 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner broke down the barriers for women to attend the Citadel; and

AR29-ASA2,1,12 Whereas, the Citadel made every effort to block Shannon Faulkner's admission to the Citadel and persists in promoting separate South Carolina state military college programs for men and women to enable the citadel to deny admission to women in the future; now, therefore, be it

AR29-ASA2,1,16 Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly commend and thank Shannon Faulkner for her courage, commitment and persistence in opening the Citadel to women cadets and wish her the best in her future endeavors; and, be it further

AR29-ASA2,2,5 Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly request the Wisconsin congressional delegation to seek discontinuation of all federal funding to the Citadel until that institution fully accepts women into its cadet corps and discontinues its efforts to promote separate South Carolina state military college programs for men and women; and, be it further

AR29-ASA2,2,9 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Shannon Faulkner, the members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation, the Secretary of Defense, the speaker of the South Carolina General Assembly and the attorney general of South Carolina.
