SENATE AMENDMENT 5, TO 1997 ASSEMBLY BILL 220

AB220-SA5,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

AB220-SA5,1,2 1. Page 3, line 3: delete lines 3 to 5 and substitute:

AB220-SA5,1,4 "(b) "Partial-birth abortion" means a procedure consisting of the following sequence of acts:

AB220-SA5,1,5 1. The uterine cervix of a pregnant woman is dilated.

AB220-SA5,1,6 2. The child is rotated so that its feet are the presenting part.

AB220-SA5,1,8 3. The feet of the child are pulled past the vaginal introitus and the arms and shoulders of the child are passed through the uterine cervix.

AB220-SA5,1,10 4. A scissors or other instrument is used to pierce the base of the skull of the child.

AB220-SA5,1,13 5. A suction curette is inserted into the opening at the base of the skull made by the scissors or other instrument and the cranial contents are suctioned from the skull.

AB220-SA5,2,1 6. The skull of the child is crushed or collapsed.

AB220-SA5,2,2 7. Delivery of the child is completed.".
