AB267-ASA2,1,2 1An Act to amend 1.10 of the statutes; relating to: designating the state symbol
2of food.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB267-ASA2, s. 1 3Section 1. 1.10 of the statutes is amended to read:
AB267-ASA2,2,15 41.10 State song, state dance and state symbols. The Wisconsin state song
5is "On, Wisconsin", music written by W. T. Purdy, the words to which are as follows:
6"On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin! Grand old badger state! We, thy loyal sons and
7daughters, Hail thee, good and great. On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin Champion of the
8right, `Forward', our motto — God will give thee might!". The Wisconsin state dance
9is the polka. The state symbols are as follows: The mourning dove (zenaidura
10macroura corolinensis linnaus) is the symbol of peace; Wisconsin cheese is the
11symbol of food;
the Wisconsin state beverage is milk; the Wisconsin state tree is the

1sugar maple (acer saccharum); the Wisconsin state grain is corn (Zea mays); the
2Wisconsin state flower is the wood violet (viola papilionacea); the Wisconsin state
3bird is the robin (turdus migratorius); the Wisconsin state fish is the muskellunge
4(Esox masquinongy masquinongy Mitchell); the Wisconsin state animal is the
5badger (taxidea taxus); the Wisconsin domestic animal is the dairy cow (bos taurus);
6the Wisconsin wildlife animal is the white-tailed deer (odocoileus virginianus); the
7Wisconsin state dog is the American water spaniel; the Wisconsin state insect is the
8honey bee (apis mellifera); the Wisconsin state fossil is the trilobite (calymene
9celebra); the Wisconsin state mineral is the galena (lead sulfide); the Wisconsin state
10rock is the red granite; and the Wisconsin state soil is the Antigo silt loam (typic
11glossoboralf). The Wisconsin Blue Book shall include the information contained in
12this section concerning the state song, dance, beverage, cheese, tree, grain, flower,
13bird, fish, animal, domestic animal, wildlife animal, dog, insect, fossil, mineral, rock
14and soil. For each Wisconsin Blue Book, the secretary of agriculture shall designate
15the cheese information about which shall be included.

AB267-ASA2,2,1917 (1) Notwithstanding section 1.10 of the statutes, as affected by this act,
18information about colby cheese shall be included in the 1999-2000 Wisconsin Blue
19Book.
