AB174-SSA1,1,3 1An Act to repeal 167.31 (4) (a) 1.; and to create 167.31 (1) (em) and 167.31 (4)
2(am) of the statutes; relating to: an exception for peace officers to prohibitions
3relating to the transportation of firearms in motor vehicles.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB174-SSA1, s. 1 4Section 1. 167.31 (1) (em) of the statutes is created to read:
AB174-SSA1,1,55 167.31 (1) (em) "Peace officer" has the meaning given in s. 939.22 (22).
AB174-SSA1, s. 2 6Section 2. 167.31 (4) (a) 1. of the statutes is repealed.
AB174-SSA1, s. 3 7Section 3. 167.31 (4) (am) of the statutes is created to read:
AB174-SSA1,1,118 167.31 (4) (am) 1. Subsections (2) (a), (c) and (d) and (3) (a) and (b) do not apply
9to a peace officer who, in the line of duty, loads or discharges a firearm in, on or from
10a vehicle, motorboat or aircraft or discharges a firearm from or across a highway or
11within 50 feet of the center of a roadway.

12. Subsection (2) (b) does not apply to a peace officer who places, possesses or
2transports a firearm in or on a vehicle, motorboat or aircraft while in the line of duty.
AB174-SSA1,2,53 3. Subsection (2) (b) does not apply to a person employed as a peace officer who
4places, possesses or transports a firearm in or on a vehicle while traveling in the
5vehicle from his or her residence to his or her place of employment as a peace officer.

AB174-SSA1,2,87 (1) This act first applies to the placement, possession or transportation of a
8firearm that occurs on the effective date of this subsection.
