AB528-ASA1,1,2 1An Act to amend 118.02 of the statutes; relating to: special observance days
2in school.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB528-ASA1, s. 1 3Section 1. 118.02 of the statutes is amended to read:
AB528-ASA1,2,7 4118.02 Special observance days. On the following days when school is held
5the day shall be appropriately observed: January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
6Day; February 12; February 15, Susan B. Anthony's birthday; February 22; March
74, Casimir Pulaski Day; March 17, for the Great Hunger in Ireland from 1845-50;
8April 13, American Creed Day; April 22, Environmental Awareness Day; April 24,
9for the Armenian Genocide from 1915-23;
September 16, Mildred Fish Harnack Day;
10September 17, U.S. Constitution Day; September 28, Frances Willard Day; October
119, Leif Erikson Day; October 12; November 9, for the Holocaust of 1933-45;
12November 11; and Wednesday of the 3rd week in September, as part of Wonderful

1Wisconsin Week under s. 14.16 (8), Wisconsin Day. If any such day falls on a
2Saturday or Sunday, the observance shall be on a school day immediately preceding
3or following. If school is held on June 14, that day shall be appropriately observed
4as Robert M. La Follette, Sr. Day. If the governor by proclamation sets apart one day
5to be designated as Arbor and Bird Day, under s. 14.16 (1), that day shall be
6appropriately observed; otherwise, the last Friday in April shall be observed as Arbor
7Day.

AB528-ASA1,2,99 (1) This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
