ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 1, TO 1999 ASSEMBLY BILL 528

AB528-ASA1,1,2 An Act to amend 118.02 of the statutes; relating to: special observance days in school.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB528-ASA1, s. 1 Section 1. 118.02 of the statutes is amended to read:

AB528-ASA1,2,7 118.02 Special observance days. On the following days when school is held the day shall be appropriately observed: January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; February 12; February 15, Susan B. Anthony's birthday; February 22; March 4, Casimir Pulaski Day; March 17, for the Great Hunger in Ireland from 1845-50; April 13, American Creed Day; April 22, Environmental Awareness Day; April 24, for the Armenian Genocide from 1915-23; September 16, Mildred Fish Harnack Day; September 17, U.S. Constitution Day; September 28, Frances Willard Day; October 9, Leif Erikson Day; October 12; November 9, for the Holocaust of 1933-45; November 11; and Wednesday of the 3rd week in September, as part of Wonderful Wisconsin Week under s. 14.16 (8), Wisconsin Day. If any such day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the observance shall be on a school day immediately preceding or following. If school is held on June 14, that day shall be appropriately observed as Robert M. La Follette, Sr. Day. If the governor by proclamation sets apart one day to be designated as Arbor and Bird Day, under s. 14.16 (1), that day shall be appropriately observed; otherwise, the last Friday in April shall be observed as Arbor Day.

AB528-ASA1, s. 2 Section 2. Effective date.

AB528-ASA1,2,9 (1) This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
