ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 4, TO 2001 ASSEMBLY BILL 49

AB49-AA4,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

AB49-AA4,1,2 1. Page 7, line 22: after that line insert:

AB49-AA4,1,13 "(4d) Polling hours. The elections board shall prepare recommendations with regard to expanding the polling hours for elections held in this state so that the polls are open during regular business hours for a specified number of days before election day and are open as provided under current law on election day. In addition, the recommendations shall address allowing any elector who joins a line at a polling place on election day after the time specified for closing of the polls to vote in that election. No later than the first day of the 7th month beginning after the effective date of this subsection, the elections board shall submit the recommendations to the chief clerk of each house of the legislature for distribution to the appropriate standing committees of the legislature in the manner provided under section 13.172 (3) of the statutes.

AB49-AA4,2,7 (4e) Internet voting. The elections board shall prepare recommendations with regard to permitting electors to use the Internet to vote in elections held in this state. No later than the first day of the 7th month beginning after the effective date of this subsection, the elections board shall submit the recommendations to the chief clerk of each house of the legislature for distribution to the appropriate standing committees of the legislature in the manner provided under section 13.172 (3) of the statutes.".
