SENATE AMENDMENT 1, TO 2001 ASSEMBLY JOINT RESOLUTION 35

AJR35-SA1,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the joint resolution as follows:

AJR35-SA1,1,2 1. Page 2, line 4: delete lines 4 and 5 and substitute "lung cancer; and".

AJR35-SA1,1,3 2. Page 2, line 5: after that line insert:

AJR35-SA1,1,5 "Whereas, women make only 72 cents to every dollar a man makes and pay 68% more in out-of-pocket costs for their health care; and

AJR35-SA1,1,7 Whereas, 97% of large group insurance plans cover most prescriptions, but only one-third of them cover all five FDA approved contraceptives for women; and

AJR35-SA1,1,10 Whereas, women are biologically more susceptible to sexually transmitted infections and are more likely to bear the negative long term consequences including involuntary sterilization and death; and

AJR35-SA1,1,13 Whereas, women are 10 to 20 times more likely to contract HIV, and HIV is the second leading cause of death in African-Americans and the third leading cause of death in Latinas; and

AJR35-SA1,2,2 Whereas, women have special health care needs and risks as a result of their child-bearing ability; and".
