SENATE AMENDMENT 1, TO 2003 SENATE BILL 425

SB425-SA1,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

SB425-SA1,1,3 1. Page 1, line 2: after "coroner" insert "and the appointment of a chief deputy coroner".

SB425-SA1,1,8 2. Page 1, line 5: delete lines 5 and 6 and substitute: "shall appoint some proper person, who is a resident of the county, chief deputy coroner, and may appoint up to 6 proper persons, residents of the county, deputy coroner. The deputies shall reside in the county for which they are appointed as many other deputy coroners as the coroner considers proper.

SB425-SA1,1,9 3. Page 2, line 8: after that line insert:

SB425-SA1,1,10 " Section 1m. Nonstatutory provisions.

SB425-SA1,2,4 (1) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 59.35 (1) of the statutes, as affected by this act, and notwithstanding the provisions of Section 2 of this act, a coroner who holds office on the effective date of this subsection may, at any time, appoint as many other deputy coroners as the coroner considers proper and such appointees shall serve at the pleasure of the coroner. No appointment may be made under this subsection on or after the first Monday in January following the first general election that is held after the effective date of this subsection.".
