(1m) The sum of the amount of compensatory damages for future economic
5losses and for pain and suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish, loss of
6enjoyment of life, and other noneconomic losses and the amount of punitive damages
7that a circuit court may order a defendant to pay to a person discriminated against
8may not exceed the following:

(a) In the case of a defendant that employs 100 or fewer employees for each
10working day in each of 20 or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding year,
