ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 1, TO 2007 SENATE BILL 20

SB20-AA1,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

SB20-AA1,1,2 1. Page 1, line 2: after "fighters" insert "and their surviving spouses".

SB20-AA1,1,3 2. Page 2, line 1: before that line insert:

SB20-AA1,1,4 " Section 1d. 341.14 (6r) (c) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB20-AA1,2,13 341.14 (6r) (c) Special group plates shall display the word "Wisconsin", the name of the applicable authorized special group except for special group plates under par. (f) 33m., a symbol representing the special group, not exceeding except for special group plates under par. (f) 33m., which symbol may not exceed one position, and identifying letters or numbers or both, not exceeding 6 positions and not less than one position. The department shall specify the design for special group plates, but the department shall consult the president of the University of Wisconsin System before specifying the word or symbol used to identify the special groups under par. (f) 35. to 47., the secretary of natural resources before specifying the word or symbol used to identify the special group under par. (f) 50.,the chief executive officer of the professional football team and an authorized representative of the league of professional football teams described in s. 229.823 to which that team belongs before specifying the design for the applicable special group plate under par. (f) 55., and the department of veterans affairs before specifying the design for the special group plates under par. (f) 49d., 49h., and 49s, and the department of tourism and chief executive officer of the organization specified in par. (f) 56. 55m. before specifying the design and word or symbol used to identify the special group name for special group plates under par. (f) 56. 55m. Special group plates under par. (f) 50. shall be as similar as possible to regular registration plates in color and design. Special group plates under par. (f) 33m. shall be identical, except for any identifying letters or numbers, to special group plates under par. (f) 33. and shall display the name and symbol of the special group under par. (f) 33.

SB20-AA1, s. 1h Section 1h. 341.14 (6r) (f) 33m. of the statutes is created to read:

SB20-AA1,2,15 341.14 (6r) (f) 33m. Surviving spouses of fire fighters who die in the line of duty.

SB20-AA1, s. 1p Section 1p. 341.14 (6r) (fm) 7. of the statutes is amended to read:

SB20-AA1,2,22 341.14 (6r) (fm) 7. After October 1, 1998, additional authorized special groups may only be special groups designated by the department under this paragraph. The authorized special groups enumerated in par. (f) shall be limited solely to those special groups specified under par. (f) on October 1, 1998. This subdivision does not apply to the special groups specified under par. (f) 3m., 6m., 9g., 9m., 12g., 12m., 19m., 33m., 49d., 49h., 49s., 54., 55., 55m., 56. and 57.".

SB20-AA1,2,24 4. Page 2, line 8: delete "and (b)".

SB20-AA1,3,1 5. Page 2, line 8: delete "are" and substitute "is".

SB20-AA1,3,2 6. Page 2, line 11: delete " par." and substitute "sub. (6r)".

SB20-AA1,3,7 7. Page 2, line 15: after "spouse" insert "if the plate has not been issued to another person. If the plate has been issued to another person, the department shall contact the person to whom the plate has been issued and request that the person surrender the plate, and shall reissue the plate to the surviving spouse if the person to which the plate was issued surrenders the plate".

SB20-AA1,3,8 8. Page 2, line 16: after that line insert:

SB20-AA1,3,9 " Section 2g. 341.14 (8) (am) of the statutes is created to read:

SB20-AA1,3,15 341.14 (8) (am) If a person surrenders a standard plate under par. (a) upon request of the department, the department shall provide the person with a replacement standard plate at no additional cost. If a person surrenders a personalized plate under par. (a) upon request of the department, the department shall provide the person with a replacement personalized plate at no additional cost or, if the person chooses, a replacement standard plate at no additional cost.

SB20-AA1, s. 2r Section 2r. 341.14 (8) (b) of the statutes is amended to read:".

SB20-AA1,3,18 10. Page 2, line 17: after "retained" insert "or reissued".
