SENATE SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 1,
TO 2007 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 37

SJR37-SSA1,1,1 1Relating to: honoring Wisconsinites called up to active military duty.
SJR37-SSA1,1,42 Whereas, thousands of citizens of the state of Wisconsin have faithfully and
3dutifully fulfilled their military commitments while being deployed to active military
4duty in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
SJR37-SSA1,1,75 Whereas, of the thousands of Wisconsin residents who are serving or have
6served in Iraq and Afghanistan, many are now doing or have completed their second
7and third tours in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
SJR37-SSA1,1,108 Whereas, many Wisconsin service members have returned from their tours in
9Iraq and Afghanistan having been wounded, some suffering from traumatic brain
10injuries, traumatic amputations, and acute post-traumatic stress disorders; and
SJR37-SSA1,1,1311 Whereas, many Wisconsin service members returning home from their tours in
12Iraq and Afghanistan have been awarded Silver Stars, Bronze Stars, and Purple
13Hearts; and

1Whereas, these citizens have done so with the unending support of their
2families and loved ones who are left behind, with those loved ones, friends and the
3communities nurturing the young children left behind, supporting the spouses left
4to care for families on their own, and caring for the parents, siblings, and other
5relatives and concerned individuals who are left behind with concern and worry; and
SJR37-SSA1,2,106 Whereas, these Wisconsin citizens have come from every walk of life: teachers,
7police officers, and convenience store clerks to state government cabinet secretaries
8— all resolutely fulfilling their duties, often suffering in adverse living conditions,
9facing the dangers of war every minute of every day, often times at reduced pay than
10they would have been receiving at their regular jobs at home; and
SJR37-SSA1,2,1311 Whereas, every Wisconsin citizen who has served, who is serving, or who will
12be deployed in the future to active military duty in Iraq or Afghanistan deserves the
13respect and gratitude of the people of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
SJR37-SSA1,2,16 14Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature commend every Wisconsin resident for their service in active
16military duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
