SENATE AMENDMENT 1,
TO 2007 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 49

SJR49-SA1,1,11 At the locations indicated, amend the joint resolution as follows:
SJR49-SA1,1,2 21. Page 2, line 11: delete "now, therefore, be it" and substitute "and".
SJR49-SA1,1,3 32. Page 2, line 11: after that line insert:
SJR49-SA1,1,7 4"Whereas, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos
5first enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1979 and continues in the U.S. Army Reserves as
6a colonel serving as military assistant in the Office of the Secretary of the Army at
7the Pentagon; and
SJR49-SA1,1,108 Whereas, John. A. Scocos first joined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
9Affairs in 1997 as the department's executive assistant and served as executive
10assistant until 2001; and
SJR49-SA1,1,1211 Whereas, John A. Scocos served the legislature as a legislative assistant in the
12senate and as sergeant-at-arms and chief clerk of the assembly; and
SJR49-SA1,2,2
1Whereas, John A. Scocos rejoined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
2Affairs as deputy secretary in 2002 and became secretary in 2003; and
SJR49-SA1,2,63 Whereas, during his time as secretary, John A. Scocos worked with the
4legislature to create and develop the new Wisconsin GI bill, the VetEd program, the
5Wisconsin veterans and surviving spouses property tax credit, and numerous other
6programs that will assist veterans and their families throughout the state; and
SJR49-SA1,2,127 Whereas, Secretary Scocos continues to provide a high level of quality service
8to both the legislature and veterans throughout the state and has earned the 2006
9Wisconsin State Department of the American Legion Leadership Medal, the 2006
10Wisconsin State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America Distinguished Service
11Award, and the 2006 Disabled American Veterans Distinguished Service Award,
12each of which is the highest award given by these organizations; and
SJR49-SA1,2,1413 Whereas, John is devoted to his wife, Kelly, and children, Chloe, Andreas, and
14Costa; now, therefore, be it".
SJR49-SA1,2,16 153. Page 2, line 14: delete "Afghanistan." and substitute "Afghanistan; and, be
16it further".
SJR49-SA1,2,17 174. Page 2, line 14: after that line insert:
SJR49-SA1,2,20 18"Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend
19Secretary John A. Scocos for his exemplary service to the Wisconsin Department of
20Veterans Affairs and salute him as he returns to active duty military service in Iraq.".
