SENATE AMENDMENT 2,
TO 2007 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 49

SJR49-SA2,1,11 At the locations indicated, amend the joint resolution as follows:
SJR49-SA2,1,3 21. Page 1, line 1: delete "honoring Wisconsinites called up to active military
3duty" and substitute "Secretary John A. Scocos".
SJR49-SA2,1,5 42. Page 1, line 2: delete the material beginning with that line and ending with
5page 2, line 14, and substitute:
SJR49-SA2,1,9 6"Whereas, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos
7first enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1979 and continues in the U.S. Army Reserves as
8a colonel serving as military assistant in the Office of the Secretary of the Army at
9the Pentagon; and
SJR49-SA2,1,1210 Whereas, John. A. Scocos first joined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
11Affairs in 1997 as the department's executive assistant and served as executive
12assistant until 2001; and
SJR49-SA2,2,2
1Whereas, John A. Scocos served the legislature as a legislative assistant in the
2senate and as sergeant-at-arms and chief clerk of the assembly; and
SJR49-SA2,2,43 Whereas, John A. Scocos rejoined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
4Affairs as deputy secretary in 2002 and became secretary in 2003; and
SJR49-SA2,2,85 Whereas, during his time as secretary, John A. Scocos worked with the
6legislature to create and develop the new Wisconsin GI bill, the VetEd program, the
7Wisconsin veterans and surviving spouses property tax credit, and numerous other
8programs that will assist veterans and their families throughout the state; and
SJR49-SA2,2,149 Whereas, Secretary Scocos continues to provide a high level of quality service
10to both the legislature and veterans throughout the state and has earned the 2006
11Wisconsin State Department of the American Legion Leadership Medal, the 2006
12Wisconsin State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America Distinguished Service
13Award, and the 2006 Disabled American Veterans Distinguished Service Award,
14each of which is the highest award given by these organizations; and
SJR49-SA2,2,1615 Whereas, John is devoted to his wife, Kelly, and children, Chloe, Andreas, and
16Costa; now, therefore, be it
SJR49-SA2,2,20 17Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
18Wisconsin legislature commend Secretary John A. Scocos for his exemplary service
19to the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and salute him as he returns to
20active duty military service in Iraq.".
