SENATE AMENDMENT 3, TO 2007 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 49

SJR49-SA3,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the joint resolution as follows:

SJR49-SA3,1,2 1. Page 2, line 11: after that line insert:

SJR49-SA3,1,6 "Whereas, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos first enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1979 and continues in the U.S. Army Reserves as a colonel serving as military assistant in the Office of the Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon; and

SJR49-SA3,1,9 Whereas, John. A. Scocos first joined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs in 1997 as the department's executive assistant and served as executive assistant until 2001; and

SJR49-SA3,1,11 Whereas, John A. Scocos served the legislature as a legislative assistant in the senate and as sergeant-at-arms and chief clerk of the assembly; and

SJR49-SA3,1,13 Whereas, John A. Scocos rejoined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs as deputy secretary in 2002 and became secretary in 2003; and

SJR49-SA3,2,4 Whereas, during his time as secretary, John A. Scocos worked with the legislature to create and develop the new Wisconsin GI bill, the VetEd program, the Wisconsin veterans and surviving spouses property tax credit, and numerous other programs that will assist veterans and their families throughout the state; and

SJR49-SA3,2,10 Whereas, Secretary Scocos continues to provide a high level of quality service to both the legislature and veterans throughout the state and has earned the 2006 Wisconsin State Department of the American Legion Leadership Medal, the 2006 Wisconsin State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America Distinguished Service Award, and the 2006 Disabled American Veterans Distinguished Service Award, each of which is the highest award given by these organizations; and

SJR49-SA3,2,12 Whereas, John is devoted to his wife, Kelly, and children, Chloe, Andreas, and Costa; now, therefore, be it".

SJR49-SA3,2,14 2. Page 2, line 14: delete "Afghanistan." and substitute "Afghanistan; and, be it further".

SJR49-SA3,2,15 3. Page 2, line 14: after that line insert:

SJR49-SA3,2,18 "Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend Secretary John A. Scocos for his exemplary service to the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and salute him as he returns to active duty military service in Iraq.".
