Section 53b. 6.79 (8) of the statutes is created to read:

(8) Electors who are at least 65 years of age. If an elector states to the
10election officials that he or she is at least 65 years of age and has resided at his or her
11current residence for a period that includes at least the 2 most recent general
12elections, the elector is exempt from the requirement to present proof of
1identification. The inspectors shall enter on the poll list next to the name of each such
2elector the word "exempt."".

Section 116g. 343.16 (3) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:

(3) (a) The department shall examine every applicant for the renewal
21of an operator's license once every 8 years. The department may institute a method
22of selecting the date of renewal so that such examination shall be required for each
23applicant for renewal of a license to gain a uniform rate of examinations. The
24examination shall consist of a test of eyesight. The department shall make
1provisions for giving such examinations at examining stations in each county to all
2applicants for an operator's license.
All examining stations shall be open for business
3until at least 8 p.m. on each election day and on the day immediately prior to each
4election day. The person to be examined shall appear at the examining station
5nearest the person's place of residence or at such time and place as the department
6designates in answer to an applicant's request. In lieu of examination, the applicant
7may present or mail to the department a report of examination of the applicant's
8eyesight by an ophthalmologist, optometrist
, or physician licensed to practice
9medicine. The report shall be based on an examination made not more than 3 months
10prior to the date it is submitted. The report shall be on a form furnished and in the
11form required by the department. The department shall decide whether, in each
12case, the eyesight reported is sufficient to meet the current eyesight standards.

(3) (a) Except as provided in s. 343.165 (4) (d), the department shall
