TO 2011 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 28

SJR28-ASA1,1,2 1Relating to: proclaiming October 2011 as Comprehensive Women's Health Care
2Month.
SJR28-ASA1,1,43 Whereas, more than 2.8 million women and girls live in the state of Wisconsin;
4and
SJR28-ASA1,1,55 Whereas, Wisconsin recognizes the unique health needs of women; and
SJR28-ASA1,1,106 Whereas, access to comprehensive reproductive health care — including Pap
7smears, colposcopy, breast exams, screening and treatment for sexually-transmitted
8infections, birth control counseling and services, and prenatal care coordination —
9provided by licensed medical professionals is critical to the overall well-being of
10women and their families; and
SJR28-ASA1,1,1311 Whereas, women's health centers have saved countless lives by preventing and
12treating life-threatening diseases including HIV/AIDS, and breast, cervical, and
13ovarian cancer; and

1Whereas, family planning health care is recognized by the Centers for Disease
2Control and Prevention as one of the top ten public health achievements of the 20th
3Century; and
SJR28-ASA1,2,64 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin values the many licensed health care
5professionals who provide this basic care in a compassionate setting, at times under
6threat of violence; now, therefore, be it
SJR28-ASA1,2,10 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
8Wisconsin legislature strongly support comprehensive women's health centers in
9their unique, positive contributions to the individual lives of women, men, and babies
10— both born and unborn; and, be it further
SJR28-ASA1,2,13 11Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the compassionate work
12of tens of thousands of volunteers and paid staff at women's health centers in
13Wisconsin and across the United States; and, be it further
SJR28-ASA1,2,17 14Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature disapproves of the actions of any
15national, state, or local group attempting to prevent women's health centers from
16effectively serving women's health care needs, particularly those that operate
17through deception, harassment, intimidation, or violence; and, be it further
SJR28-ASA1,2,20 18Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim October
192011 as Comprehensive Women's Health Care Month in the state of Wisconsin, and
20commend this month of observance to all Wisconsin's citizens.
