AB743-ASA1,1,3 An Act to create 20.285 (1) (e) and 36.25 (54) of the statutes; relating to: assisting University of Wisconsin System students in securing internships with businesses and making an appropriation.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB743-ASA1,1 Section 1. 20.005 (3) (schedule) of the statutes: at the appropriate place, insert the following amounts for the purposes indicated: - See PDF for table

AB743-ASA1,2 Section 2. 20.285 (1) (e) of the statutes is created to read:

AB743-ASA1,2,5 20.285 (1) (e) Internship coordinators and grants. As a continuing appropriation, the amounts in the schedule for internship coordinator positions created and grants made under s. 36.25 (54). No moneys may be encumbered under this paragraph until September 1, 2016.

AB743-ASA1,3 Section 3. 36.25 (54) of the statutes is created to read:

AB743-ASA1,2,16 36.25 (54) Internship coordinators and grants. The board shall make efforts to assist college campus and university students in securing internships with businesses. The board shall create full-time equivalent positions to be funded from the appropriation under s. 20.285 (1) (e) for the purpose of coordinating those efforts. From the appropriation under s. 20.285 (1) (e), the board shall make grants based on financial need to students who secure unpaid internships as a result of those efforts. No later than September 1, 2017, and annually thereafter, the board shall submit a report to the appropriate standing committees of the legislature under s. 13.172 (3) on the number of paid and unpaid internships secured by students in the preceding year as a result of those efforts.
