SB437-SA1,1,11 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:
SB437-SA1,1,2 21. Page 2, line 1: before that line insert:
SB437-SA1,1,3 3 Section 1m. 23.33 (1) (ja) of the statutes is created to read:
SB437-SA1,1,64 23.33 (1) (ja) “Preferred route” means an all-terrain vehicle route marked with
5signs to assist all-terrain vehicle operators in navigating to needed services such as
6fueling stations, restaurants, lodging, or other business establishments.” .
SB437-SA1,1,8 72. Page 2, line 10: delete “within its territorial boundaries" and substitute
8“under its jurisdiction".
SB437-SA1,1,9 93. Page 2, line 13: delete lines 13 to 18 and substitute:
SB437-SA1,1,12 10“23.33 (8) (e) 2. Except as provided in subd. 3, if a town, village, city, or county
11designates specific highways under its jurisdiction as all-terrain vehicle routes
12under par. (b) 2., the town, village, city, or county shall do one of the following:

1a. Erect a sign at each point on a highway where the all-terrain vehicle route
2begins and at each point where the all-terrain vehicle route intersects an all-terrain
3vehicle trail or a highway that is not designated as an all-terrain vehicle route. The
4town, village, city, or county is not required to erect a sign under this subdivision at
5a point that is not more than one-half mile from a sign marking the same all-terrain
6vehicle route on the same highway.
SB437-SA1,2,137 b. Erect a sign on each highway under its jurisdiction that crosses its territorial
8boundary in a position to be viewed by motorists as they enter the town, village, city,
9or county. The signs shall alert motorists that all highways within the town, village,
10city, or county have been designated as all-terrain vehicle routes, except where
11otherwise indicated. The town, village, city, or county shall erect signs as
12appropriate to indicate highways that are not designated as an all-terrain vehicle
13route.”.
SB437-SA1,2,15 144. Page 2, line 20: delete the material beginning with “within" and ending with
15“boundaries" on line 21 and substitute “under its jurisdiction” .
SB437-SA1,2,16 165. Page 3, line 3: delete “within" and substitute “under the jurisdiction of".
SB437-SA1,2,17 176. Page 3, line 5: delete lines 5 to 9 and substitute:
SB437-SA1,2,18 18 Section 6m. 23.33 (8) (e) 4. of the statutes is created to read:
SB437-SA1,3,319 23.33 (8) (e) 4. If a town, village, city, or county designates all highways under
20its jurisdiction as all-terrain vehicle routes under par. (b) 2., the town, village, city,
21or county may erect a sign on each highway under its jurisdiction at the point where
22that highway crosses its territorial boundary and enters another town, village, city,
23or county that does not designate the highway as an all-terrain vehicle route. The
24signs shall be in a position to be viewed by motorists and all-terrain vehicle operators

1as they leave the town, village, city, or county and shall alert motorists and
2all-terrain vehicle operators that the all-terrain vehicle route designation has
3ended.
SB437-SA1,7m 4Section 7m. 23.33 (8) (e) 5. of the statutes is created to read:
SB437-SA1,3,75 23.33 (8) (e) 5. If a town, village, city or county designates highways under its
6jurisdiction as all-terrain vehicle routes under par. (b) 2., the town, village, city, or
7county may designate a preferred route and erect signs marking the route.
SB437-SA1,8m 8Section 8m. 23.33 (8) (e) 6. of the statutes is created to read:
SB437-SA1,3,129 23.33 (8) (e) 6. If a town, village, city, or county erects and maintains signs
10under subd. 3., the department may not require the town, village, city, or county to
11erect any additional signs marking the all-terrain vehicle routes within the town,
12village, city, or county.”.
