Drivers and motor vehicles
Under current law, DOT must charge an applicant for a commercial driver license a fee of $64 and, if applied for at the same time, a fee of $5 for an endorsement to operate a school bus. DOT must also charge an applicant for any license a fee of $10. This bill waives those fees for an applicant holding a military commercial driver license.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
Section
1. 343.21 (1) (d) of the statutes is amended to read:
343.21 (1) (d) For the initial issuance or renewal of authorization to operate "Class A", "Class B" or "Class C" motor vehicles, or upgrading an existing regular license which only authorizes the operation of "Class D" motor vehicles, $64. This fee includes issuance of any "H", "N", "P", or "T" endorsements or "Class D" authorization applied for at the same time for which the applicant is qualified. An additional fee of $5 is required for the issuance or renewal of any "S" endorsement applied for or renewed at the same time for which the applicant is qualified. The department shall waive any fee under this paragraph for an applicant who holds a military commercial driver license, as defined in s. 343.16 (2) (f) 1.
Section
2. 343.21 (1) (n) of the statutes is amended to read:
343.21 (1) (n) In addition to any other fee under this subsection, for the issuance, renewal, upgrading, or reinstatement of any license, endorsement, or instruction permit, a license issuance fee of $10. The department shall waive any fee under this paragraph for an applicant who holds a military commercial driver license, as defined in s. 343.16 (2) (f) 1.
Section 9345.
Initial applicability; Transportation.
(1) Commercial driver license application fee. The treatment of section 343.21 (1) (d) and (n) of the statutes first applies to applications made on the effective date of this subsection.
