1. Grants to local organizations that coordinate grazing
This bill requires DATCP to promote the dairy industry by providing grants to local organizations that coordinate grazing. Under current law, DATCP promotes the growth of the dairy industry by making grants and loans to dairy producers, making grants to dairy processing plants, and through research, planning, and assistance.
2. Preference for grants to small dairy processing plants
Under this bill, in awarding grants to dairy processing plants, DATCP must give preference to small dairy processing plants. Under current law, DATCP promotes the growth of the dairy industry through research, planning, and assistance by making grants to persons operating dairy processing plants and making grants and loans to dairy producers.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
Section
1. 20.115 (4) (d) of the statutes is amended to read:
20.115 (4) (d) Dairy industry promotion. The amounts in the schedule for promoting the growth of the dairy industry by providing grants and loans to dairy producers and by providing grants to local organizations that coordinate grazing.

2. 93.40 (1) (g) of the statutes is amended to read:
93.40 (1) (g) Promote the growth of the dairy industry through research, planning, and assistance, including grants and loans to dairy producers
, grants to local organizations that coordinate grazing, and grants to persons operating processing plants. In awarding grants to persons operating processing plants, the department shall give preference to persons operating small processing plants.
