Worker's compensation uninsured employers fund
DWD administers the worker's compensation program in this state. Employers are required to have worker's compensation insurance or to self-insure. The program includes an uninsured employers fund (UEF), which is used to pay worker's compensation benefits on claims filed by employees who are injured while working for uninsured employers in this state. The money for the UEF comes from, among various sources, penalties assessed against uninsured employers. This bill changes the appropriation for the UEF from a sum sufficient appropriation to a continuing appropriation.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
Section 1. 20.445 (1) (sm) of the statutes is amended to read:
20.445 (1) (sm) Uninsured employers fund; payments. No moneys may be expended or encumbered under this paragraph until the first day of the first July beginning after the day that the secretary of workforce development files the certificate under s. 102.80 (3) (a).
****Note: This Section involves a change in an appropriation that must be reflected in the revised schedule in s. 20.005, stats.
