Seal of biliteracy
This bill requires DPI to annually award grants to school boards and independent charter schools to reimburse them for the costs of the assessments necessary for pupils to earn a state seal of biliteracy and costs to train instructional staff to conduct these assessments. The bill also provides express authority for DPI to establish a state seal of biliteracy for high school pupils who demonstrate through various assessments advanced achievement in bilingualism, biliteracy, and sociocultural competence. Currently, 14 school districts participate in a state seal of biliteracy program administered by DPI.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
