ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming February 1, 1996, National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Whereas, National Girls and Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a way to honor Olympic volleyball star Flo Hyman; and
Whereas, that day has evolved into an annual event that recognizes the accomplishments, the dedication and the development of the valuable personal qualities of the millions of girls and women who participate in athletics in this country; and
Whereas, that day also directs attention to the positive influence of sports and advances the efforts of American girls and women to achieve equal access to athletic opportunities; and
Whereas, this year the day will be celebrated with many events, activities and games; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature recognize the accomplishments and aspirations of America's female athletes by declaring February 1, 1996, National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
