ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming Armed Forces Day.
Whereas, throughout this nation's history, citizens have relied on the armed forces to protect the United States' interests, to oppose aggression by foreign powers and to keep the peace; and
Whereas, the U.S. armed forces, to perform their duties, have frequently had to go to war; and
Whereas, during this nation's wars millions of members of the armed forces have contributed to the cause; many have faced danger bravely; and many have died or been wounded; and
Whereas, even during peacetime the U.S. armed forces have stood ready to face danger and have prepared themselves to do so effectively; and
Whereas, the citizens of this country need constantly to remember, and be grateful for, the services and sacrifices of this country's armed forces throughout this nation's history; and
Whereas, one way to rekindle those feelings is by designating a day on which to focus our attention on the armed forces; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim the 3rd Saturday in May "Armed Forces Day in Wisconsin", urge the residents of this state to use that occasion to renew their commitment to the current members of the armed forces and their memories of former members, particularly those who gave their lives in this nation's service, and urge all Wisconsinites to take part in commemorative services on the 3rd Saturday in May.
