1999 Assembly Resolution 17
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming October 2, 1999, as Nigeria Day.
Whereas, Nigerian Community in Milwaukee, Inc., was started in 1970 to provide cultural and educational programs for the Milwaukee area and to promote the art, culture, heritage and overall development of Nigeria; and
Whereas, the Federal Republic of Nigeria gained its independence on October 1, 1960; and
Whereas, Nigeria is the largest country in Africa, with nearly 100,000,000 people of diverse cultural heritage; and
Whereas, Nigerians' independence day is being celebrated in Milwaukee by the holding of Nigeria Day, a celebration of Nigerian heritage and culture, on October 2, 1999; and
Whereas, Nigerian Community in Milwaukee, Inc., is organizing this special event and is inviting all to experience the rich traditions, food and dances for which the people of Nigeria are well-known; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly proclaim October 2, 1999, as Nigeria Day, and wish all that attend the Nigeria Day festivities fine weather and an enjoyable time; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall send a copy of this resolution to the Nigerian Community in Milwaukee, Inc.
