1999 Assembly Resolution 43
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Assembly Chief Clerk Charles R. Sanders on his distinguished career of 30 years of service to the members of the assembly.
Whereas, the Honorable Charles R. Sanders, chief clerk of the Wisconsin state assembly, has been a dedicated employe of the assembly since January 7, 1971; and
Whereas, Charlie has faithfully and enthusiastically discharged his responsibilities as chief clerk of the Wisconsin state assembly, being first elected to that position on May 24, 1995, succeeding his good friend and mentor, the late Tom Melvin; and
Whereas, while Charlie was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he began his legislative career as a messenger in the assembly chief clerk's office and became the assistant chief clerk in 1987; and
Whereas, Charlie's tenure in the assembly encompasses 15 full legislative sessions under the direction of 8 assembly speakers; and
Whereas, along with Charlie's commitment to the assembly and the office of chief clerk, he served for many years as a member of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries, including chairmanship of the Canadian-American Relations Committee; and
Whereas, one of Charlie's favorite duties as chief clerk is assisting the 99 members of the assembly in making the transition to elected public office and advising them on the operations of the legislature; and
Whereas, Charlie Sanders has chosen to retire from public service on January 3, 2001, and to begin a 2nd career as a fly fisherman and assistant to his wife, Barbara Budig, in her antique business; and
Whereas, Charlie will be missed by members of the assembly, staff, colleagues, agency personnel and the general public who relied on him for guidance and information; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly,That the members of the assembly of the state of Wisconsin congratulate Charles R. Sanders on his 30 years of service, commend him on his distinguished career and wish him the best of everything upon his retirement; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to himself.
