1999 Senate Resolution 8
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending the University of Wisconsin (UW) men's hockey team on its accomplishments during the 1999-2000 hockey season.
Whereas, the UW men's hockey team concluded the regular season with a mark of 28-7-1 overall and a WCHA record of 23-5-0, the 2nd winningest record in school history; and
Whereas, in combination with regular and postseason play, the UW men's hockey team achieved the 30-win mark, the only team in the nation with 30 victories in the 1999-2000 season; and
Whereas, for its superb record in the WCHA this season the UW men's hockey team was awarded the MacNaughton Cup, which was presented after its March 11, 2000, WCHA playoff game at the Kohl Center; and
Whereas, the UW men's hockey team achieved its first number one seeding in the NCAA tournament since the 1982-83 season; and
Whereas, Head Coach Jeff Sauer has been named a finalist for the 1999-2000 Spencer Penrose National Division I Coach of the Year, after guiding this season's Badger team to the UW's 3rd McNaughton Cup, 6th 30-win season and 18th NCAA appearance; and
Whereas, the season has been filled with remarkable team and individual achievements, such as: Steve Reinprecht being named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and voted the WCHA's Player of the Year; junior defensemen Jeff Dessner named the league's Defensive Player of the Year; and Dany Heatley being named Freshman of the Year; while 7 players earned 12 WCHA Player of the Week honors during the 1999-2000 regular season, the most of any Badger team since the league honors were established; and
Whereas, the tremendous success of the UW men's hockey team this season excited fans, resulting in a sold-out Kohl Center twice this season, the first time the Kohl Center has ever sold out for a UW hockey game; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, That the members of the senate of the state of Wisconsin commend and congratulate the 1999-2000 UW Men's Hockey Team for its hard work and dedication this season and share the pride of the citizens of the state of Wisconsin in their team and individual achievements; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution to Head Coach Jeff Sauer and each member of the team.
